For Ryse – Son of Rome I took part in a research excursion to Trier in Germany. The recorded sounds were later used as the base to give the game its sonic character.
I recorded the sound of roman sandles over cobblestone roads, commands shouted in latin and the marching by’s with its distinct armaments at different areas of the event.
Interesting were the balistas, the creaking of the rope when it got spanned and cocked. It was surprisingly accurate and packed quite a punch.
